Rajinikanth’s Coolie Tops Global Box Office, Beats Hollywood Releases in First Weekend

Rajinikanth’s latest action thriller Coolie has stunned the global box office by claiming the number one spot worldwide over its opening weekend, outperforming several major Hollywood films.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie has become a commercial juggernaut despite mixed reviews, amassing nearly ₹400 crore globally within just four days of release.

Box Office Breakdown: A Blockbuster Opening

In India, Coolie grossed ₹233 crore (₹194.25 crore net) across its extended four-day weekend, making it the fastest Tamil film to reach the ₹100 crore milestone. Analysts expect it to cross the ₹200 crore mark domestically by Monday.

Internationally, the film posted remarkable numbers, collecting over $18 million (₹160 crore) across markets like North America, the UK, and Australia. Its worldwide gross currently stands at ₹393 crore ($45 million) — a record for a Tamil-language film in such a short span.

#1 Worldwide: Beating Hollywood’s Best

Coolie’s four-day global gross puts it ahead of Hollywood titles like Weapons and Nobody 2. The horror-thriller Weapons, directed by Zach Cregger, earned a total of $44 million during the same period, with $29 million coming from the U.S. market and another $15 million overseas.

Even Freakier Friday, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, and the action film War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, were unable to match Coolie‘s dominance. Both these films are estimated to have earned around $30 million globally during their respective four-day windows.

Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody 2, the only major new release from Hollywood this weekend, trailed significantly with a $14 million opening worldwide.

About the Film: Star Power Meets Action Drama

Coolie features Rajinikanth as a retired railway porter who finds himself entangled in a deadly gangster network after the mysterious death of a close friend. Nagarjuna plays the antagonist Simon, while the film also stars Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, and Sathyaraj, with Aamir Khan making a special cameo appearance.

With its mix of mass-appeal action and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s gritty directorial style, Coolie has struck a chord with audiences both in India and abroad.
