In response to a significant rise in bomb hoax threats affecting flights and public safety, the Indian government is proposing stringent penalties for individuals responsible for making false bomb threat calls. With over 120 hoax calls reported in recent weeks, authorities are emphasizing the need to address this issue as it causes major disruptions and drains valuable resources.
The proposed law includes heavy fines and possible prison sentences for offenders. Officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation stated that hoax bomb threats not only create unnecessary panic but also compromise security by diverting attention and resources from genuine risks. This measure, they believe, will serve as a deterrent to those who may consider making false threats.
Experts have voiced support for the new policy, highlighting the need for strong penalties to reduce such incidents and enhance public safety. The government is also encouraging citizens to report any suspicious activities to the authorities rather than engaging in hoaxes. Public awareness campaigns are expected to accompany the legal reforms, educating people about the consequences of hoax threats on both individual lives and national security.
The law is still in the drafting stages but is expected to be introduced in the upcoming parliamentary session. The government’s proactive stance underscores its commitment to safeguarding public spaces and ensuring that security resources are effectively utilized.
