Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has been removed from the artist listings on BookMyShow, one of India’s leading event ticketing platforms. The move comes amid political pressure following Kamra’s recent comments targeting Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a live performance in Mumbai.
Rahool Kanal, a Shiv Sena functionary, had publicly demanded action against Kamra, criticizing his jokes and urging BookMyShow to delist him. Shortly afterward, all of Kamra’s content was taken down from the platform. Kanal later thanked BookMyShow’s CEO for “keeping such artists out of the list of pure entertainment.”
Reacting to the development, Kamra took to social media with a calm yet pointed message. “Just checking if I can still list my shows on BookMyShow. If not, it’s fine. I understand,” he posted.
The incident has sparked debate over artistic freedom and the growing influence of political sensitivities on entertainment platforms. While some see the removal as an act of censorship, others view it as a response to public sentiment.
As of now, BookMyShow has not issued an official statement regarding the removal.
