Rahul Gandhi’s Convoy Driver Booked After Bihar Cop Injured During Poll Yatra

A police constable in Nawada, Bihar sustained a leg fracture after falling near Rahul Gandhi’s vehicle during the Voter Adhikar Yatra. An FIR has been filed against the driver.

A police constable was injured during Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar’s Nawada district on August 19, prompting authorities to book the SUV driver from Gandhi’s convoy.

The constable, identified as Mahesh Kumar, reportedly suffered a leg fracture after falling in front of the vehicle, which then brushed past him. The incident occurred as the yatra moved through a crowded area. According to officials, the constable was part of the security team deployed for the event and was attached to the Nawada sub-divisional police officer.

Though the Superintendent of Police Abhinav Dhiman clarified that the car did not run over the constable, he confirmed the registration of a case and said further details would be shared in due course. “It was not that the constable got run over by the vehicle,” he told Hindustan Times. “He tripped, and the vehicle barely grazed his foot.”

Video footage circulating online shows the officer being helped out from under the car and limping away. In the clip, Rahul Gandhi is seen offering a water bottle to help, and later inquiring about the policeman’s condition.

Doctors at a Nawada hospital confirmed that the injury resulted in a fracture.

Meanwhile, the BJP criticised the Congress party, with spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala labelling the incident “Crush Janta Yatra” in a pointed remark aimed at the Gandhi-led campaign.

The Voter Adhikar Yatra, part of the opposition’s ongoing outreach initiative, includes participation from key allies like RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav. The incident has stirred controversy in the midst of an already charged political climate.
